Text Box: Continuing with the thoughts we shared last month about venues, let us touch upon theme weddings or destination weddings. The popularity of theme/destination weddings is rising steadily. More and more couples are planning theme weddings that express their interests and dreams that they have always had about their weddings. Many combine their religion and /or traditions into their wedding theme, or use them as the central point of both ceremony and reception. Others choose their theme to coincide with their wedding venue or location. Yet some others would simply prefer to go with a particular colour or a combination of colours that they like. One wedding that we handled, the couple chose a different theme for each function- engagement, mehandi, sangeet , wedding and reception. The mood for the theme for the guests was set right from the design and wordings of the invitation cards to the attire of the bride and groom. As Indians, we are blessed with a heritage so rich and diverse, one could place a finger virtually anywhere on the map of India and you can weave a theme out of there. Whatever you finally choose, make sure it suits both your personalities. Here are some things that you must consider – - Choose a theme that all in the family are comfortable with and can participate in. If you would really like to do something that is out of the ordinary, plan it for smaller gatherings with select friends and relatives - Make sure that your guests know what to expect. The fun is in getting guests to actively participate. If the theme involves a special garb or accessory, do have extras on hand that a guest can quickly use to become part of the celebrations and not feel left out - Personalize, personalize, personalize. Themes offer wonderful opportunities to personalize and blend …..gifts, favors, thank you cards ..everything. So get creative. - Accessories play an important role in themes. In fact, the trend is to have as many accessories actually match as a set, rather than just complement. eg. a matching gift bag and envelope - Wedding pictures and videos are the memories that you will cherish forever after the wedding.. Do suggest that your guests (at least your nearest friends and relatives }wear colours that complement your attire so that the pictures come out beautiful. Remember you are the star on this day.. Themes weddings are fun to plan and participate in. It’s a great way to bond with relatives and friends who perhaps you have not met for some time. Everyone comes back with great memories that are talked about for years.
